MINUTES OF IIEE -1ST INDUSTRIAL ADVISORY BOARD MEETING

The 1st IIEE Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) meeting was held on 5th December 2018, at conference Room of IIEE (PCSIR) to collect feedback on Program Educational Objectives and Curriculum of Industrial Electronics Engineering.
Engr. Ashab Mirza, Principal IIEE, chaired the meeting. The list of the Meeting Attendees is as.

Recommendations on the agenda items from three other members; Engr. Nasir Sharif (General Manager, Gulf Commercial Group, UAE), Engr. Ammar Hassan Naqvi (Instrumentation and Electrical Manager, Fatima Fertilizer Company Limited) and S. Umer Farooq, (Director CEO, Mutech Pvt. Ltd) would be collected through email. (As these members could not attend the meeting due to some official reasons.)

AGENDA ITEMS:

1. 1. To introduce the members of the board to IIEE and Outcome Based Education system
2. 2. To collect valuable recommendations of Industrial representatives on Program Educational Objectives and Curriculum of Industrial Electronics Engineering
3. 3. To explore possible ways of collaboration between IIEE and Industry

DISCUSSION:

1. 1. Engr. Ashab Mirza Principal IIEE, welcomed the IAB members and started the meeting with few verses of Holy Quran.
2. 2. Thereafter, Principal IIEE briefly explained the importance of formation of IIEE- Industrial Advisory Board and its significance on Outcome Based Education (OBE) system.
3. 3. Engr. Dr. Farah Haroon gave an introductory presentation on IIEE, Washington Accord and OBE system. The role of IAB was emphasized that how academia and Industrial collaboration can be utilized to identify potential employers for IIEE graduates and prepare them to face challenges of emerging needs of Industrial sector.
4. 4. Engr. Yasser Khalil and Engr. Rizwan Malik shared that graduates should also exhibit presentation and communal skills in addition to their engineering insight. These attributes should be developed before they start their professional life.
5. 5. Engr. Dr. Farah Haroon explained that now with the introduction of courses like Functional English, Technical Report writing and Communication skills, affective attributes are being developed in students. 
6. 6. Engr. Yasser Khalil highlighted the importance of Functional Safety in any industry and recommended to introduce the Industrial Safety standards in course IE476 Industrial Instrumentation Systems.
7. 7. He further emphasized that Case Studies should be included to foster analysis and solving skills of Complex Engineering Problems.
8. 8. Engr. Rizwan Malik accentuated that graduate should also be groomed with leadership qualities to take Pakistan ahead.
9. 9. Later, Engr. Anjum Darakshan and Engr. Asif Memon discuss the importance of arranging Seminars, Mock Interviews and Motivational lectures with Industrial experts.  
10. 10. Finally Engr. Ashab Mirza ended the meeting with the vote of gratitude and thanks to members of Industrial Advisory Board.
11. 11. Thereafter IAB members visited IIEE Labs with Engr. Asif Memon and gave their respective recommendations.

RESOLUTIONS:

1. 1. Members of IAB agreed with the proposed IIEE Program Educational Objectives.
2. Recommendations regarding addition of topics related to Functional Safety in IE476 Industrial Instrumentation Systems would be incorporated in next course revision proposal.
3. 2. Case studies would be involved in both Engineering and Non Engineering courses to inculcate complex problem solving skills.
4. 3. Practicing Engineers (from Industry) may be invited to conduct Seminars and Tutorial Sessions, in advance (or senior level) courses, in which they should pose a practical engineering (or industrial) problem to the students for the solution. The students in group would find (or propose) the solution within the session after brain-storming session. At least one such activity may be included in EACH advance course that may be conducted in the last week of semester. This activity can expose the students to apply their theoretical knowledge in solving real engineering/industrial problem.
5. 4. Sincere efforts are required to bridge the gap between academia and Industry. Members of IAB would be requested to introduce more representatives from industry and identify the mechanism of collaboration.
   Engr. Asif Memon would be a focal person from IIEE and Mr. Fasih, student counselor would also be involved in arranging student seminars, internships and industrial visits.
6. 5. Minutes of the meeting would be circulated to other members of IAB and their feedback would be collected and incorporated.
