Overview
The final-year project (FYP) is the most visible piece of engineering work in the degree. Students work in teams, choose a problem with a supervisor, build and test a solution, and defend it before the committee.
IIEE’s FYP committee approves the project list and keeps the standard consistent across programmes. The 2024 list was approved under Principal Investigator Dr. Farah Haroon, with Engr. Sajid Hussain, Engr. Agha Muhammad Shakir and Engr. Asif Ahmad as co-investigators.
How the FYP works
- Form a team and identify an area you can build and test.
- Secure a supervisor and agree the scope and deliverables.
- Submit a proposal with a clear problem statement, method and plan.
- Get committee approval before committing to expensive parts.
- Build, instrument, test and iterate — document as you go.
- Submit the report and present a working demonstration.
What makes a strong project
- A clearly defined problem with a measurable result.
- A solution that combines hardware, software or both in a meaningful way.
- Safe operation, realistic constraints and a clear bill of materials.
- Evidence: test data, measurements, screenshots or a working prototype.
- Documentation that another student could follow and reproduce.
